Dennis Hopper Recieves A Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

A thin Dennis Hopper was respected with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today.

Hopper, who, according to his profession Joseph Mannis, is failing and incompetent to embrace chemotherapy diagnosis for prostate cancer, perceived the 2,403rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

"Everything I schooled in my hold up I schooled from you and the smashing universe that I trafficked and saw," the "Easy Rider" star told his guest at the ceremony.

"He is someone who has seemed to continually climb out of the remains of self-inflicted chaos, startling us with his newness and quick mind as an artist, and defying the contingency by someway staying alive physically and professionally," Viggo Mortensen pronounced of Hopper.

Jack Nicholson, David Lynch and Dwight Yoakam were additionally on palm for the event. Members of&Hopper"s family were there as well, says the Associated Press.

Earlier this week, justice writings filed by Mannis traffic with Hopper"s divorce from his mother of thirteen years, indicated that the 73-year-old cannot endure stressful situations and prolonged conversations. But, according to KCBS, his alloy authorized his coming for the tribute, observant it was expected to be a certain experience.

Haiti assist bid injured by delayed U.N. reply

REUTERS/Carlos Barria

PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) - Clutching involuntary attack rifles, truckloads of U.N. infantry patrolled the streets of Haiti"s cracked collateral on the day after the trembler strike last month, clearly preoccupied to the wretchedness around them.

World&&&&Natural Disasters

Cries for assistance from people digging for survivors in collapsed buildings were drowned out by the bark of heavy-duty engines as the infantry plowed by Port-au-Prince but interlude to stick on rescue efforts, majority less lead them.

A usual steer since they were deployed in 2004, the U.N. infantry huddled in the shade of their canopied vehicles.

There were about 9,000 uniformed U.N. peacekeepers stationed in Haiti when the upheaval struck on Jan twelve and they were the judicious "first responders" to the mess in the bankrupt Caribbean country, whose notoriously diseased executive supervision was impressed by the scale of the tragedy.

Initially, however, nothing of the peacekeepers appeared to be concerned in hands-on charitable service in what puncture healing experts report as the vicious initial 72 hours after a harmful trembler strikes.

Their reply to the abominable pang was singular to you do security and seeking for looters after the bulk 7.0 upheaval intended majority of the collateral and took what Haitian President Rene Preval says could be as majority as 300,000 lives.

There was looting in the capital, but it paled in some-more aged with the astringency of the charitable crisis.

Horribly-injured patients flooded overstretched hospitals, forcing healing staff to confirm that patients to yield and that were already as well far left to try saving.

"Doctors played God," pronounced Tyler Marshall, a maestro former Los Angeles Times match operative with an general assist organisation that helped out in a tent city erected at the tallness of the destruction on the drift of Port-au-Prince"s University Hospital, the country"s largest.

Scores of U.N. crew died in the quake, together with Hedi Annabi, head of the U.N. mission that was set up in 2004. That helps insist what majority have criticized as a glacially delayed kickoff of service operations after one of history"s misfortune healthy disasters.

But in the days and weeks that followed it mostly seemed that lessons from alternative disasters were abandoned in Haiti as fears of rioting or anarchy overshadowed concerns about removing assist out quickly.

The U.N."s tip charitable assist official, John Holmes, is between those who have chided service agencies, together with the United Nations itself, for you do as well small to assistance Haiti.

"We cannot ... wait for for for the subsequent puncture for these lessons to be learned," Holmes wrote in a trusted email initial published on the website of the biography Foreign Policy.

"There is an obligatory need to progress significantly genius on the ground, to urge coordination, vital formulation and sustenance of aid," pronounced Holmes.

Edmond Mulet, behaving head of the U.N. mission, concurred in an talk that it played a singular charitable purpose in the initial couple of days after the trembler since the operations were effectively decapitated.

"At the unequivocally commencement it was unequivocally formidable since all the domicile was utterly broken and all the care of the mission was killed," Mulet told Reuters.

"CRIMINALS AND BANDITS"

Mulet gained prominence for wielding an iron fist during a prior army as head of the U.N. mission when he led mostly Brazilian "blue helmet" infantry in a successful crackdown on Haiti"s heavily armed gangs.

And he has finished no tip about sophistry the competing needs of service operations with law enforcement, in his bid to lane down the some-more than 3,000 inmates who took value of the trembler to shun from the main prison.

"We are here additionally to yield security," he pronounced when asked about the mess of convoys of rifle-wielding U.N. infantry to poke for people trapped in the rubble of the busted capital.

"I still have to patrol, I still have to go after all these criminals and bandits that transient from the inhabitant penitentiary, the squad leaders, the criminals, the killers, the kidnappers. I cannot unequivocally confuse myself from you do that."

The service mission shifted in to higher rigging after U.S. infantry deployed in large numbers and set up a supply sequence to get food and disinfectant in to areas great out for aid.

But there were still majority bottlenecks and setbacks, mostly involving U.N.-linked food distributions hobbled by unsound organization, reserve and throng control.

Unfortunately, U.N. infantry in Haiti have over the years gained a repute for toughness and abuse some-more than for easing pang in the lowest nation in the Americas.

"The usually time I"ve seen one of these U.N. infantry burst out of the behind of a lorry was to kick up on somebody or take a shot at them," pronounced a piece of the U.S. Army"s 82nd Airborne Division, as he worked security during a new assist handout.

"These guys have since all of us in unvaried a bad repute here," he said, asking not to be identified.

Haiti"s wrecked infrastructure and bad ride links finished it formidable to get assist out and keep it flowing, but that frequency finished the incident opposite from that in alternative new disasters around the globe.

"POOREST AND MOST VULNERABLE"

"The lowest and the majority exposed people lend towards to live in the regions that are strike the majority by healthy disasters," pronounced Solomon Kuah, an puncture healing medicine formed in New York who outlayed 4 weeks in Port-au-Prince after the quake.

There are no arguable estimates for the series of survivors who died from injuries due to unsound healing supplies.

But Henriette Chamouillet, the World Health Organization"s deputy in Haiti, pronounced all from staff shortages to bureaucracy and a miss of make-up lists embroiled the smoothness of containers full of medicines from Port-au-Prince"s airfield to doctors on the ground.

Port-au-Prince sits usually 700 miles off the seashore of Miami, that is home to a large Haitian-American community, and it seemed ludicrous that so couple of the U.S. infantry rushed there spoke French or were accompanied by translators.

One retaining picture of pell-mell food distributions came when U.S. helicopters offloaded boxes of MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) at a site in the capital. Many Haitians non-stop them up usually to toss them afar in offend since no French or Creole-language instructions were enclosed with the assumingly invalid packets of dust, explaining that they indispensable to be churned with H2O as piece of their preparation.

Rajiv Shah, head of the U.S. Agency for International Development, has touted the Haiti service mission as "the largest and majority successful general poke and rescue bid ever fabricated in history."

But some-more than 6 weeks after the upheaval hit, the mission is still mostly in an puncture reply mode. The U.N."s World Food Program is tying the food rations to 55-pound (25 kg) bags of rice and the Haitian supervision estimates that a million upheaval survivors are still vital in the streets in temporary encampments with no using H2O or toilets.

Doctors are roughly finished traffic with dire injuries but reconstruction for a little 40,000 amputees and rebuilding Haiti"s health infrastructure are between long-term challenges.

"This is unequivocally a mess of Biblical proportions," pronounced Lewis Lucke, who was the USAID executive in Iraq prior to entrance to Haiti as U.S. ambassador.

U.N. and alternative officials have pronounced the tellurian reply to Haiti"s upheaval was quicker and some-more in effect than in alternative new disasters, together with the Asian tsunami that killed 226,000 people in thirteen countries in Dec 2004.

But experts contend the United Nations has a lot to sense from smaller, some-more nimble healing groups similar to International Medical Corps, or IMC, and Paris-based Medicins Sans Frontieres, along with charities some-more experienced in distributing aid, such as CARE and Catholic Relief Services.

Kuah, who concurrent service efforts for IMC, a California-based organisation that had rarely learned doctors treating patients in Haiti twenty-three hours after the trembler struck, stressed the "need for speed" when it comes to saving lives.

"When you ask yourself if there were ways you could have prevented some-more mortalities or discontinued additional mortality, with earthquakes, in particular, it"s some-more timing than anything else," pronounced Kuah.

Stan Hey 6-5 AgainstRacing Sport

Rather similar to the weather, the sports betting year is at a point of transition. Just eight days after the electrocute of punters at Cheltenham take a see at Breughels The Triumph of Death to know what it felt similar to the Flat deteriorate on territory starts currently at Doncaster.

There are usually 7 games left for majority teams in the Premier League but county cricketers are already oiling their bats. Tennis is in Florida, as is golf, prior to attack Georgia for the Masters and the lapse of you know who.

This is wily for punters. Do you hang with the well known knowns football, rugby, burst racing or dump in to the different knowns?

There doesnt appear to be majority extract left in the football season. Then again, I have a disreputable feeling that at slightest one of the tip 3 will dump points today, with injuries and preparations for the Champions League being factors. Time to gamble on a couple of draws Birmingham City v Arsenal is 100-30 at Bet365; Chelsea v Aston Villa, 7-2 generally; Bolton Wanderers v Manchester United, 7-2 at Boylesports. Have 5 on each, and 5 on the treble, usually in case.

The Flat not usually ends with a sigh but starts with one. Todays Lincoln Handicap at a slimy Donny, could be the alternative anniversary bookend, the Nov Handicap. Theres no dark Group equine in the margin and majority runners appear exposed.

The thrust on Penitent, right away 3-1, seems plausible, as he has an preferred pull and a tip jockey. But I"m still in limbo after Cheltenham. Guesswork says the Jamie Osborne-trained Lang Shining, who has twice won initial time out ; try 5 each-way at 33-1.

Matthew Norman What would Foot have done of it now?Matthew Normanators

Even prior to Michael Foots death, the stream tensions with the supervision of Argentina over South Atlantic skill rights presented a benefaction for fans of the what-if propagandize of complicated history.

What if the frictions of 1982 had been resolved, as the benefaction ones will be, by diplomacy? Without that war, which, as a princely enemy of nazi persecution Mr Foot felt thankful to support, would Margaret Thatcher have been sunk by the practice ostracism section she"d imposed on 3 million people?

Would the longest self-murder note in story have been remade in to a shelter doux to that the citizens responded by peppering the list writings with Labour kisses? And would he have survived in office, this devious and enthralling firebrand, for long?

A small whilst earlier, Chris Mullin had created A Very British Coup. Would the British establishment, and some-more pertinently Ronald Reagans White House, have tolerated a unilateralist using Americas heading anti-Soviet fan and majority precious vital dominion? If Prime Minister Foot had systematic the Yanks to pack up their air bases and transparent out at a high point of Cold War paranoia, competence we have seen a inherent predicament similar to the one in Mr Mullins novel?

Assuming it survived, would a Foot administration department department have bent to realpolitik and directed the nation in the same reformist direction, despite along less choppy sea lanes, as Mrs Thatcher, or stranded to the revolutionary guns? Or competence Mr Foots laissez-faire proceed to care (and he was resplendently destroyed in the role) have led colleagues to move opposite him immediately, usually as Herbert Morrison schemed to reject Clement Attlee in the hours after his landslide better of Churchill in 1945?

Enormous fun as it is to suppose the growth of dramatically opposite time lines, the bauble is that no one could have been less meddlesome in the what-if diversion than Michael Foot. Perhaps it isnt peculiar at all. Perhaps he usually wasnt that bothered. No one who ever led a technically electable British domestic celebration seemed so unfeeling in the merger of power, so free from agonise at unwell to take it, or so but sarcasm at the betrayals of the inheritor who did.

I met Mr Foot usually twice, once at a Tribune cooking not prolonged prior to 9/11, and again at a neighbours residence after the advance of Iraq, and his faithfulness to people as well as element was chastening. The initial time, in Soho, I returned from the gents with a little flippant anxiety to the Tom Driberg Memorial Suite (the Gay Hussar loo in that that unaccompanied Labour MP favourite to put up with his charitable passion for fellating newly introduced gentlemen). "Whaaaarrrgghhhhh!" harrumphed Mr Foot, slapping an angry thigh. "Dont dissapoint him," his mother Jill Craigie admonished. "Michaels terribly constant to Toms memory."

He was similarly constant to Mr Tony Blair, whom multiform of us attempted to tempt Mr Foot in to slagging off. He wasnt carrying any. Early days was the Foot line on the immature luminary for whom he campaigned in 1983; and anyway, Labour is a good movement, not one man. But this was a manoeuvre d"etat, I wittered, executed opposite that transformation by 4 of five men. No, no, hes a essentially good chap, rebuked Mr Foot, and the celebration will civilize him (I counterfeit slightly) in the end.

You dont outlay 90 years examination Plymouth Argyle fool around football but being a genealogical loyalist, and a couple of years after he still refused to criticise. The casus belli had prolonged given collapsed, usually as Iraq had disintegrated in to narrow-minded mayhem, nonetheless still this stately man was definitely loyal. If mistakes had been made, was as far as he"d go, they were done from the noblest of motives. He wasnt wild about Messrs Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld himself, but he practically clinging the PMs bona fides.

Reading Andrew Rawnsleys newly published The End of the Party yesterday brought a little contrasts, frequency ambiguous before, in to the sharpest of focus. The internecine poison that dissolved the Blair-Brown administration department department wouldnt have repelled Michael Foot. He was there, after all, via the mid-late Sixties when Wilson could usually order (or at slightest survive) by dividing the Cabinets baronial powers as they plotted and raged opposite him and each other. He was no softie himself. You dont climb to lead a vital party, or live to 96 come to that, but a magnitude of tungsten at your core.

What would have bewildered him is the staggering tininess of the characters and their arguments. To a man who served to one side such quarrel era titans as Crossman, Crosland, Healey, Jenkins, Callaghan, George Brown and Castle, it contingency have been confusing to comply the likes of Alan Milburn, Charles Clarke and the Eds Balls and Miliband arise as vital players.

To watch them quarrel as proxies for year after year over zero not a draining carrot some-more ideologically surpassing than Mr Blairs withdrawal date would have frightened him. To a man who review voraciously even when half without eyes by antiquity, a Labour PM proudly receiving the Henry Ford line on story contingency have seemed horrendous.

To review in such clinical item how the Prime Minister took the ostrich on all sides on those self-existent US plans for post-invasion Iraq, and how the Chancellor took process positions quite to put up with his lust for the premiership, would certainly have damaged his heart.

If he"d lived to review this book he"d have pronounced zero publicly, of course, since he never did. Whether a good chairman not an harmless or agreeable or desirable person, but an fair chairman sexually clinging to the usual good can turn Prime Minister in a domestic complement scorched by the Thatcher-Murdoch pivot and the ever some-more carelessly Faustian succesors is unlikely. The miracle, perhaps, is that twenty-eight years ago currently it seemed a possibility.

I cant recollect a domestic genocide as wist-inducing as Michael Foot"s. He was the last good front to an age when, for all their imperfections, comparison politicians fought similar to alley cats for their ideology as well as the energy to exercise them when cupboard ministers essentially review books, and even wrote books that werent lucrative, self-indulgent memoirs and there are stronger reasons than affection, salmon nostalgia or incorrigible romanticism to weep that.

Proteins might point to ethanol make use of test

The plea in ethanol abuse as against to piece abuse -- things similar to heroin or heroin or PCP -- is that ethanol is a ideally authorised piece for those over 21, pronounced Willard M. Freeman, Ph.D., dialect of pharmacology and lead investigator. Unlike slight contrast for unlawful drugs, you can"t usually see for a snippet of ethanol since most people suffer a splash in a obliged demeanour and ethanol is unequivocally fast metabolized. Discriminating in in between extreme and obliged levels of celebration creates this a larger challenge.

Penn State Hershey researchers, operative for two-and-a-half years in team-work with Kathleen A. Grant, Ph.D., at the Oregon National Primate Research Center, identified a set of seventeen proteins in the red red red red blood that fairly expected ethanol make make use of 90 percent of the time in non-human primates. Researchers were means to apart make make use of in to 3 categories -- no ethanol use, celebration up to dual drinks per day and celebration at slightest 6 drinks per day.

Protein levels rose and declined depending on ethanol consumption.

We noticed that the levels of a small proteins increasing or decreased with as small as one or dual drinks a day, Freeman said. These same changes occurred with heavier levels of drinking. We additionally found alternative proteins that responded usually to complicated levels of drinking. Combined, these proteins concede us to systematise subjects in to non-drinking, alcohol-using, and alcohol-abusing groups.

The researchers are stability their work, primary by last either the changes totalled lapse to normal levels with relinquishment of drinking. Second, they are seeking for one more proteins to both enlarge correctness and yield alternates if a small of the primary seventeen do not work in humans.

Working with groups around the world, Penn State Hershey researchers -- led by Freeman and Kent Vrana, chair, dialect of pharmacology -- plan to pick up red red red red blood from people undergoing quadriplegic diagnosis for ethanol abuse.

We"ll pick up red red red red blood via their stay to see if the patients" protein settlement reverts from an extreme celebration settlement to a settlement thatindicative of ethanol abstinence, Freeman said.

The idea is to emanate a evidence exam for ethanol expenditure that might be used in areas of open reserve similar to aviation or inhabitant security, for release conditions and for assisting physicians establish if a studious might have an ethanol abuse problem. Currently there are tests that try to residence this issue, but Freeman pronounced these tests are not supportive and specific sufficient to offer as diagnostics.

Many of these tests rely on usually one protein, he said. The reduction to this proceed is that these tests mostly see at proteins constructed by the liver. While these proteins enlarge with extreme ethanol intake, they additionally enlarge with any sort of damage to the liver. For example, a lot of medication drug are tough on the liver. These tests let us know that the liver is being stressed but can"t distinguish in in between extreme celebration and alternative conditions, that thus reduces the application of these tests.

Thatwhere we see the guarantee in this row of proteins. The proteins are constructed by a series of viscera together with the liver, the muscle, and the brain. This singular fingerprint that is demonstrative of ethanol abuse is less expected to be constructed by separate conditions.

Freeman stresses, a evidence exam would not be contrast for alcoholism, but rather, ethanol intake.

In a strictest make make use of of the words, alcoholism is a mental diagnosis as against to a turn of drinking, he said. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual unequivocally classifies ethanol abuse and alcoholism formed on how ethanol is interfering with your life. Obviously we can"t make make use of a red red red red blood exam to contend yes, your celebration is interfering with your home life. But the volume of celebration and the volume of problems it causes in your hold up are firmly correlated.

We envision, a series of years down the line if this becomes a evidence test, that if the exam indicates that you"re celebration a lot, it would prompt a mention to a dilettante in ethanol abuse and alcoholism. This exam could yield an design indicator to assistance people proceed addressing what might unequivocally be a complaint in their lives.

Researchers find new chemotherapy multiple shows guarantee in endometrial cancer

SAN FRANCISCO - Researchers from The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center inform that in a small investigate of women with modernized or memorable endometrial cancer, gemcitabine and cisplatin, when used in combination, constructed a reply rate in fifty percent of patients.

Jubilee Brown, M.D., join forces with highbrow in M. D. Anderson"s Department of Gynecologic Oncology, presented the commentary at today"s full event of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists" 41st Annual Meeting on Women"s Cancer.

While early-stage endometrial cancer typically responds well to customary therapies, low presence rates for modernized or memorable disease outcome from singular and ineffectual chemotherapy and hormonal diagnosis options. The American Cancer Society estimates that fifteen percent, or 3 out of each twenty of women with theatre IV endometrial cancer, will tarry some-more than five years.

The Phase II investigate of twenty patients found that the mixed of gemcitabine and cisplatin, dual drug now used to provide alternative sorts of cancer, singular the disease"s progression, augmenting progression-free presence whilst progressing sufferable toxicity levels. It is believed that when administered together, gemcitabine helps overcome cell insurgency to cisplatin, throwing growth cells a manly one-two punch.

"These formula are encouraging, charity a new citation for the investigate for women who humour from modernized disease," pronounced Brown, the study"s lead author. "The commentary have the intensity to suggest an additional choice to these patients, but substantiating this diagnosis as a customary of caring will need some-more research."

Researchers enrolled patients with theatre IV or memorable endometrial cancer in between Nov 2004 and Sep 2009 in the single-institution study. Women were treated with colour with gemcitabine and afterwards cisplatin twice during each chemotherapy cycle, undergoing an normal of five cycles. Patient reply was evaluated with earthy and pelvic examinations and imaging studies (computed tomography or captivating inflection imaging) after each 3 cycles.

Of the twenty patients, dual had a finish remission; eight had a prejudiced response, or a diminution in the distance of a growth or in the border of cancer in the body; 6 patients experienced a stabilization of disease, definition their cancer conjunction decreased nor increasing in border or severity; and 4 experienced a course in disease, definition their growth grew or cancer metastasized.

Findings demonstrated a 50 percent altogether reply rate, or alleviation in disease. Additionally, the clinical good of the two-drug mixed was 80 percent, as sixteen of the twenty women experienced possibly an alleviation or stabilization of disease. All side goods ensuing from the caring were manageable. Brown remarkable that formula from the investigate aver review of the chemotherapy mixed in a larger, decisive hearing at mixed institutions.

According to the National Cancer Institute, endometrial cancer is the majority usual gynecologic turpitude and the fourth majority usual cancer between women in the United States. Nearly 8,000 women died from the disease in 2009.

Gemcitabine and cisplatin in mixed have been investigated at length in alternative disease sites, and synergism of the dual agents has been reliable in cell lines of human endometrial, ovarian, colon, lung and squamous cell head and neck carcinomas.

In further to Brown, researchers contributing to the all-M. D. Anderson investigate include: Judith K. Wolf, M.D., highbrow and join forces with director; Judith A. Smith, Pharm. D., join forces with professor; Lois M. Ramondetta, M.D., join forces with professor; Pedro T. Ramirez, M.D., join forces with professor; Robert L. Coleman, M.D., highbrow and executive of clinical research; Charles F. Levenback, M.D., professor; Mark Munsell, M.S., comparison investigate statistician; and Maria Jung, R.N., all from the Department of Gynecologic Oncology, and Anil K. Sood, M.D., highbrow and executive of ovarian cancer investigate in the Department of Gynecologic Oncology and highbrow in the Department of Cancer Biology.

The investigate was saved by a accede to from Eli Lilly.

Legal movement probable over WND snub

The White House Correspondents" Association could be facing a legal challenge to its decision to snub WorldNetDaily, the leading independent news site on the Web, by allocating only two seats to the organization"s annual black-tie dinner on May 1 to after requested and paid for three tables.

Larry Klayman, legal counsel for WND, confirmed he contacted the association today, and then dispatched via e-mail the suggestion, "Please contact me right away if you would prefer to settle this matter short of suit."

"If I do not hear from you by close of business Monday, March 22, 2010, a complaint will be filed the following day," Klayman told the association.

&&

reported earlier that in the past, has been afforded one table. This year asked for three and paid the full price in advance. According to Joseph Farah, editor and chief executive officer, was the first news organization to respond the day the tickets went on sale.

The news service"s check for $6,600 was cashed, and then the correspondents" association offered two seats for the dinner.

Ed Chen, president of the association, yesterday returned a call made requesting comment and said, "Well, basically a number of factors go into this. The demand has never been greater and almost nobody, individual or organization, can get more than what they had last year."

But he then got upset about the fact was reporting on the conflict and hung up on a reporter.

"Look at the response from the White House Press Correspondents Association president. He says, "Almost nobody, individual or organization, can get more than what they had last year." Note the "almost." Note that we are getting bupkiss no table at all," said Farah.

"We don"t want two seats. We won"t accept them. We"re one of the fastest growing news organizations in the country, while most of our competitors are shrinking. Yet, many of them are getting up six, seven, eight tables. On what basis are those decisions made? Has it occurred to Mr. Chen and his colleagues playing favorites like this and making up the rules as they go along is dangerous business and highly discriminatory?"

He continued, "This is not just a major social function. It"s a news event. Why is the White House press corps playing the role of palace guard here? What standards are they using to make fair and equitable decisions about who they allow in their party? Is this the new closed country club mentality of the 21st century?"

He confirmed has engaged Klayman, a legendary Washington attorney, to file an action if necessary to challenge the decision, since other news organizations have been afforded as many as eight tables, seating 10 each, for past dinners.

"Keep in mind, this shabby treatment is not just what the White House press corps thinks of WND. This is how they treat one of their own colleagues a man who has covered the White House since the Nixon days. There"s no respect here for seniority. There"s no attempt at fair play. This is about rewarding media insiders and friends with perks. This is why Washington journalists get even less respect from the American people in polls than do Washington politicians," Farah continued.

"The conduct of the White House Correspondents" Association would appear to a neutral observer to be a hit by the Obama White House using WHCA against WorldNetDaily," Klayman said.

He cited WND"s diligent reporting on the failings of the Obama administration as well as its extensive coverage of the numerous lawsuits questioning Obama"s eligibility for office because of the Constitution"s requirement that a president be a "natural born citizen."

On its commentary pages, has carried numerous criticisms of Obama and his plans.

"We"ve been through this kind of treatment by the Washington press corps in the past," said Joseph Farah. "We"ve grown to expect it, despite the fact that we are the oldest independent online news source on the Net, despite the fact that our White House press correspondent is the third most veteran member of those covering the White House and despite the fact that we always play by the rules."

Farah said the White House press corps and the correspondent association have shown nothing but antipathy for New Media enterprises like in general and even more disdain for those who subscribe to the traditional role of the American press as a vigorous watchdog on government.

Dating back to February 2002, was denied accreditation to the Senate Press Gallery for routine access to cover the Capitol. Ten days after threatened legal action against individual members of the Senate Press Gallery, was granted accreditation in September 2002.

This year, planned to debut a book about its White House press correspondent, Les Kinsolving, at the dinner, where Barack Obama will be the headliner. Kinsolving has served as a White House press correspondent since the Nixon administration, but, as Farah explains, is still treated with "disdain and contempt" by his colleagues and White House press secretary Robert Gibbs frequently being snubbed for questions while other correspondents are given multiple opportunities to grill him.

"This is an illustration of what some call the "government-media complex" or the "state-sponsored media,"" says Farah. "It"s one thing when you have to battle government secrecy and corruption, which we expect to do as part of our jobs as newsmen. It"s another thing when you have to battle your own colleagues who act like self-appointed press cops, blocking independent media from doing the job they refuse to do."

The correspondents" group explains on its website that it "represents the White House press corps in its dealings with the administration on coverage-related issues."

An elected board of directors addresses issues of access to the president, work space arrangements, logistics and costs for press travel to travel with the president.

Listed on the website as board members are Doug Mills of the New York Times, Steve Scully of C-SPAN, Don Gonyea of National Public Radio, Julie Mason of the DC Examiner and Caren Bohan of Reuters.

Jay Leno is scheduled to be a featured speaker at the May 1 event, and the group announced it is going green for the first time: "The association is taking action to reduce the carbon impact of its annual black-tie gala; these actions include using as much as possible renewable energy for the event, paper products, supplies and services that reduce the threat of global warming, deforestation, toxic wastes, hazardous chemicals and species extinction."
